Pennies is growing

Pennies Nursery School, part of Pretoria Evangelism and Nurture (PEN), is situated on the corner of Proes and Schubartstreet in the city of Pretoria. Pennies is currently serving 100 children aged 2 – 6 years, from the Schubartpark community, which has often been in the news during the recent months.  Due to a lack of maintenance, the buildings, housing an estimated 5,000 people, are becoming dangerous to live in.  Pennies used to have two Grade R classes in one of the blocks, which had to be closed down due to the fact that it is not a safe environment for children anymore. 

But…

With the need for more space ever growing and after lots of thinking and talking, we are now planning to build another floor on top of our office complex.  This will enable us to open up another classroom with extra bathroom facilities for 25 children, as well as an extra therapy room and offices for the Inner City Pre-School Forum, currently serving seven other day care centers in the city.

As we have started our planning, people have come forward offering their services spontaneously. At this stage we already have plans drawn up and we are waiting for approval to get started.  Very exciting!!

The estimated cost of this project is R250 000, which may sound overwhelming.  But, if we break this down to the cost of R12 per brick, of which we need 23,000, it is possible.

We would like to challenge you to sponsor some bricks.  By doing so, you could enable a small child the opportunity of much needed pre-school care and education.
